Who are we?
The Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON) Secretariat is a non-profit administrative secretariat for the the Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON). SAON was established following the Arctic Council Nuuk Declaration (2011).
SAON is a joint initiative of the Arctic Council and the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC). The Arctic Council is an intergovernmental forum for the 8 Arctic states: Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, the Russian Federation, Sweden, and the United States.
The SAON Secretariat is hosted by the Secretariat of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP). AMAP is a Working Group of the Arctic Council and is located in Tromsø, Norway.
Why do we collect personal data in our system?
Contacts are stored in order to fulfill your wish to receive newsletters, invitations to meetings, and other relevant Arctic Council documents. You are entitled to be informed when we register this information in our database, which complies with EU rules for processing personal data.

The information we have stored is either publicly available on a website or a directory, on a business card that you have shared with a SAON Secretariat staff member, or sent to the SAON Secretariat in an e-mail
What type of personal data is stored?
The personal data we store is your name, your e-mail address, your professional affiliation, professional phone number, and professional mailing address.
What is our legal basis for collecting personal data?
By being part of our distribution list, you have given your consent for the SAON Secretariat to process and store your contact information.
You can at any time request a copy of your own personal data which we have on file and correct any of the details. It is also possible to withdraw your consent at any time and request that your personal data be deleted. If you choose to withdraw your consent, it will only apply to future processing.
If you are no longer interested in receiving correspondence from the SAON Secretariat you can at any point unsubscribe from our e-mail distribution lists.
Who do we share your personal data with?
We do not share or pass on any personal information to others.
How long do we store your information?
We only store your information for as long as it is necessary to perform the requested services. We will delete your contact information once it is no longer relevant, or upon explicit request from you.
