Thursday, February 18th at 13:00 the Arctic Data Coordination Team of the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee will host a webinar where Carolina Behe of the Inuit Circumpolar Council will present on Alaskan Inuit Food Security: implications and recommendations for data and information collection and curation.

The EarthCube Polar High-Performance Distributed Computing Research Coordination Network (Polar HPDC RCN) is now recruiting proposals for a polar computing hackathon at XSEDE16 this July 17-21 in Miami. The 2-page proposals are due March 15, 2016. Winners will receive travel and expenses to attend the XSEDE ’16 conference and will have the opportunity to work with a team of computer scientists at no cost to make significant progress on their polar project over the course of a 2-day hackathon. No experience in high performance computing needed.

I am writing to inform you that the Arctic Data Coordination Team of the U.S. Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee (see http://www.iarpccollaborations.org/index.html) will be holding an open town hall meeting as part to Arctic Summit Summit Week being held in Fairbanks, Alaska in March.
The current highlighted themes for the session include
1) Enhancing the Arctic Theme for the Climate Data Initiative (CDI) and the Climate Resilience Toolkit (CRT) (https://www.data.gov/climate/ ; http://toolkit.climate.gov/);
2) International data collaboration;
3) Identification and discussion of high value "pathfinder projects" that can help to demonstrate and advance data sharing across agencies and international partners; and
4) Research crossover with operations (Search and Rescue, Disaster preparation and response). A special presentation will be given on the joint NASA and DoD Arctic Collaborative Environment Project by Dr John Walsh of UAF and Mr Stephen Spehn, Deputy Science Advisor for the U.S. European Command .

Conference themes are relate to atmosphere – land ecosystems – aquatic - anthropogenic activities – Northern societies in the Northern Pan-Eurasian region and in China.
