INTERACT Transnational Access call will be open 1st August - 30st September
Register to the on-line application system already now, and apply INTERACT Transnational Access to conduct research at the coolest places of the North!
The INTERACT project under EU FP7 has a Transnational Access program that offers access to 20 research stations in the northernmost Europe and Russian Federation. The sites represent a variety of glacier, mountain, tundra, boreal forest, peatland and freshwater ecosystems, providing opportunities for researchers from natural sciences to human dimension.
Transnational Access includes:
- Free access for user groups/users to research facilities and field sites, including support for travel and logistic costs
- Free access to information and data in the public domain held at the infrastructures
The call for proposals will be open at the INTERACT website on 1st August 30th September 2013 for Transnational Access visits taking place between October 2013 and October 2014.
News from SAON Task 14:
Up today the basic accomplishments include:
- the assembling approximately 12000 CTD observation from eight countries (including the Russia)

Progress at the US National Archives to date: 275,000 pages photographed (~23 million data points)
Transcription via Old Weather - Arctic (since November 2012): 22,439 pages transcribed (~3.5 million data points)
Additional partnerships implemented: Providence Public Library and New Bedford Whaling Museum (~250 Arctic whaling logbooks imaged)
DMI State of the Ice in the Arctic Seas (1897-1956) digitized and republished by the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC)
IASC funding for Arctic Data Rescue and Crowdsourcing Workshop to be held this autumn (likely hosted by IMO in Reykjavik)

Compo et al. have just published 'Independent confirmation of global land warming without the use of station temperatures' in GRL (uses data from Old Weather 1 & 2).

EUROFLEETS2 is a EU funded project providing scientists with 200 fully funded days of ship-time and 104 fully funded days of marine equipment to carry out ship-based research activities within any field of marine sciences.
- Polar and Subpolar Call OPEN Application deadline: 24th of May 2013
- Super-Integration Call – Expression of interest – OPEN – until the 15th of May 2013.
This Call seeks a truly cross cutting proposal which needs to mobilise a combination of EUROFLEETS Research Vessels (RVs) together with other appropriate scientific tools like nationals RVs, research planes or onshore infrastructures with their own EC or national funding. All EUROFLEETS RVs and equipment are available for this call.
The “Expression of Interest” is not binding but desirable. Logistically accepted pre-proposals will be invited to submit a full proposal from the 14th of June till the 16th of September 2013.
The Arctic Observing Summit 2013 (AOS 2013) is the first in a planned series of high-level, biennial international observing summits. The AOS is led by the International Study of Arctic Change (ISAC) and is a task of the Arctic Council’s Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON), led by the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and it is part of the broader SAON implementation process. The AOS provides a platform to address the needs of arctic and fosters international communication and coordination of long-term observations for improving understanding and responding to system-scale arctic change.
The AOS 2013 will be held on 30 April – 2 May 2013 at the Hyatt Regency, Vancouver, Canada. The key outcome of the AOS will be an assessment of the fit between stakeholder-needs, science objectives and observing networks and a variety of products to improve this. The foundation for the AOS is community input. To capture and integrate input from a broad range of participants the AOS includes preparation, in advance, of community white papers, which are available for public comment. This is a reminder that the deadline for the submission of white papers is on 28 February 2013. Additionally, the call for poster presentations is now open. The deadline for poster submission is 8 April 2013. Additionally, an online survey has been created for wide input.
